Max Shpak’s research has focuses on evolutionary genetics and computational biology.

His previous projects have covered a wide range of topics, including studies of speciation, gene duplication, phylogenetics, the dynamics of structured populations, and demographic stochasticity. Most recently, while working at the NeuroTexas Institute and CSSB, he has been applying his knowledge of computational biology and evolutionary genetics to furthering our understanding of cancer biology, particularly that of Glioblastoma multiforme. Max Shpak has also taught courses in computational biology at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at El Paso, and collaborates closely with several UT Austin faculty members in his research.
